The CHIP program has evolved over the years and is another option, via the government, for possible health insurance. However, please note that this government program is not a full blown health insurance plan like you could get through private health insurance companies and thus have limitations and coverage caps, etc. CHIP is a great possible option for those on a lower income or if one cannot get on an individual health insurance plan due to medical underwriting. Below is information on benefits that have been added to the CHIPS program this year.
Shortly after taking office, on February 4, 2009, President Obama signed into law new regulations and extension of benefits (CHIPRA) for an existing children's health insurance program (CHIP).
This act provides health insurance coverage to lower income pregnant women and children who do not qualify for the state assistance program, but who fall within 300% of the federal poverty level (FPL). It is designed to help children in families that earn too much to qualify for Medicaid, but too little to afford private health insurance.
The act was made effective April 1, 2009 and will continue through 2013.
Under this bill more than four million uninsured children will be able to get medical assistance. Increased tobacco taxes will offset the increase in spending which is currently estimated at more than $32 billion over the next four years.
Here are some important highlights of this bill:
- Dental care coverage increases. States must cover dental care under the children's health program. They will also be allowed to provide dental coverage as a supplement to private insurance.
- Legal immigrants qualify for assistance more quickly. Pregnant women and children under 21 are the ones affected. Previously, legal immigrants had to wait five years from the time they entered the United States before they were eligible for medical assistance from Medicaid and the State Children's Health Insurance Program. Now States are able to cover pregnant women and children who are legal immigrants.
- Financial eligibility requirements have been raised. This means more families can be helped. A pregnant woman's financial eligibility is now set at 185% of the Federal Poverty Level; a child under 19 is set at 200% of the FPL. The cap is set at 300%.
- States can choose how they want to implement this increased health coverage. They can expand Medicaid by increasing the maximum family income allowable for children. Or they can expand current health programs by increasing the number of children they will accept into the program or by opening the doors to allow higher-income families to participate. They are also able to establish new programs that comply with federal law. However the States choose to do it, they will receive matching funds from the federal government for the new children enrolled.

A General Perspective on Woman's Health
A brief comparison of today's men with that of women reveals that now-a-days women are more conscious and more aware about their health status than their male counterparts.
Even the general practitioners and doctors are of the view that an increasing number of women are coming forward and demanding explanations on the nature of various health problems and their symptoms.
Whether this increase in health awareness on the part of women is due to the increased publicity in books, magazines, newspapers or through the increasing use of Internet, a greater number of women are seeking medical advice and pursuing therapies, simply to maintain their general health.
Awareness in Women About Their Health Problem Although the number of women seeking various sets of information about a particular ailment/disease is not much, there are few who go to the extent of searching through the Internet and read latest researches on the respective malady.
In this context, patients may and do understand such concepts as bones/joints wearing out or the facts that hear-valve are leaking.
Yet the more complex issues in medicine, such as understanding the deeper workings of the various hormones remain an enigma even for the larger category of specialists.
Hence, the effect of hormones on such intricate areas as the menstrual cycle, fertility, general health as well as the general psyche are areas where science has yet to male a breakthrough.
However, it is indeed encouraging that in spite of the lack of research and developments in female areas, such as noted in the preceding paragraph, there is an increasing tendency for women to seek out ever new modes of therapies and treatments for maintaining their general health. This will not only help them in taking care of their own health and make them more aware but will also help them in taking care of their loved ones.

How Ovarian Cysts Affect Your Health!
Many women are familiar with the term "ovarian cyst" and either know someone who has been affected by them, or have had ovarian cysts themselves. Becuase they seem to be quite benign growth, and most of them are, some can actually bring a life-threatening condition, and need to be removed before too late.
Don't think that because you're one of post-menopausal female patients, your doctor will give you all clear. Statistically, more than 14% of women in this group suffer from cysts.
However, if the condition is diagnosed in due time, ovarian cyst surgery is fairly smooth and the success of the operation is guaranteed in most cases. Seek symptoms of ovarian cysts, regardless of whether the patient complains about any problems - more or less obvious. Among these we should mention: irregular periods, bladder problems, weight gain, nausea, breast tenderness, menstrual pain, fatigue and increase in the body and facial hair. Even if no ovarian cysts symptoms can be noticed, women who take their annual examination are usually diagnosed soon enough to ensure appropriate treatment in a timely manner.
There are several different types of ovarian cysts. The functional type occurs as part of the usual process of menstruation and can be treated very efficiently with no hassle at all. The corpus luteum cyst related to menstruation usually takes three months to dissolve and completely disappear. The follicular and the dermoid cysts contain residues like hair and skin and are known to be the most common cause of a cyst ovary. The haemorrhagic cyst (which is another type of functional cyst), also known by the name of blood cyst, occurs when a blood vessel in the cyst wall breaks. Endometriosis is associated with another class - the endometrioid cyst - it forms inside the ovary causing it to expand.
All of the above types of ovarian cysts are easy to treat and remove; world-wide incidence is growing. When tumour cause the cyst to appear, it may indicate some serious condition taht need to be attended to promptly. Many bring about similar symptoms to those of functional cysts but pathological cysts ovaries must be treated with care and no time must be wasted. For this type of cyst to grow during pregnancy may bring serious complication and at worst miscarriage. Those affected by ovarian cyst and pregnant, are risking lives of the mather and foetus.
Regardless of the type of ovarian cysts, when pain appears the prognosis is good. As long as the specialist can intervene in the course of the process and apply appropriate treatment in time, there is no need to worry. However, those who have a history of ovarian problems are advised to get a check-up at least once a year to prevent undesirable occurrences.

Penis Size - Women's Thoughts
This week, I shall discuss penis size because my research team and I not only find this topic fascinating, but we also believe that it is a main concern for most men. In fact, one member of my research team had us in fits of laughter when she told us her personal story of encountering a penis she thought was too big, but this is a story to be told on another occasion.
According to medical data, the human penis is the largest of all primates and is proportionally bigger in length and thickness when compared to the size of the human body. In fact, medical studies conducted in the late 1990s and early 2000s found that the flaccid penis of men, on average, is 3.5 inches in length, and an erect penis is typically 5-6 inches with a circumference of 4-5 inches when fully erect. And, the Definitive Penis Size Survey, which has collected the penis size data from some 3,100 subjects, confirms these results....
According to the scientific studies carried out by psychosexual development experts, women like their penises to be something that they can handle rather than something they are scared of, especially during sexual encounters. Here are some fascinating medical facts that we uncovered:
FACT 1 - Most women prefer a wider penis to a longer penis. This is attributed to the fact that, prior to childbirth, the female vagina is typically between 3 to 4 inches in length, and most of the nerve endings of a vagina are in the first 3 inches.
FACT 2 - Women predominately think a penis that is 4 to 6 inches in length is ideal in size.
FACT 3 - Most women preferred a penis that was easily held when erect, and they thought that a penis of more than 5.5 inches in circumference was getting too large while one under 4 inches was getting too small.
FACT 4 - Most women confessed that they visually had trouble determining accurately the size of a penis. In fact, on most occasions, the women on my research team thought the penises were actually larger than they were when measured.
So, "Ciao for now my friends, and don't forget to come visit me at Man1 to learn more about penises."

Can Pregnant Women Obtain Health Insurance?
Pregnancy is indeed the most important stage in the life of every woman. The health of "New mothers" and babies must be well taken care of during this period in order to deliver healthy babies. In fact, it is necessary for a family to save sufficient fund as there are a lot of costs incurred before a baby is born. The best way is to obtain health coverage from insurance companies or insurance providers during the whole period of pregnancy.
In normal circumstances, most of the standard health coverage policies in the market do not cover pregnancy. Can a pregnant woman be covered by the medical insurance?
The answer is YES. The good news is you can purchase pregnancy health insurance when you are in the planning stage for pregnancy. You can even purchase it when you are already expecting. There are many insurance companies providing this customized package to suit the needs of the expectant mothers. This is because many mothers are worrying about the medical expenses for pregnancy and childbirth.
It will be most ideal if you could obtain the maternity insurance before you are pregnant. The premium for the policy is relatively lower compared with the premium of pregnant policy holders. Most of the insurance providers in the market consider pregnancy as a pre-existing condition and they normally require the applicants to pay a higher premium for the maternity coverage. However, it is still worthwhile to get the pregnancy health insurance as long as the premium can be afforded by you. It is a wise decision for you and your family to enjoy the financial protection while waiting for the newborn baby.
Childbirth involves risks and there are a lot of costs incurred too, such as fees for regular check ups, obstetrician's consultation service, ultrasound, healthcare products, delivery costs, hospital admission, surgical fee, etc. With the help of maternity health insurance, all the families can enjoy their exciting moment without any financial burden and worries.

Linking Women, Emotions and Heart Disease
Since our heart is the most vital organ in our body, naturally we would want nothing more than to protect it from harm. You might find it surprising to know that negative emotions such as frustration, worry, and anger put us more at risk for heart disease.
The most common emotions that link most people to heart disease are experienced at a higher percentage by women than men. The reason being is women are born with more intense emotions. Females feel feelings of joy more deeper than men, they also take setbacks and disappointments to heart more than men. Quite naturally these emotions of anxiety, depression, anger, and loneliness are more powerful and detrimental to their heart.
Let's take a look at some reasons and solutions for each emotion.
Anxiety- Too much anxiety can lead to high blood pressure. We are all hardwired to worry, but even more so for women. Especially during the childbearing years. Some simple ways to calm anxiety is to slow down using methods like yoga, light exercise, walking, or meditation. Of course avoiding stress as much as possible is very helpful, mainly work related stress.
Depression- Being overly depressed can cause a hardening of the heart's arteries. There are many reasons for depression. Studies have shown that they are seeing a higher level of depressed people being linked to an abundance of stress hormones in the blood, that causes platelets of the blood, which eventually damage the blood vessels.
Ways to combat depression is to have an awareness of its symptoms that seems to linger on and on. Symptoms such as fatigue and insomnia. Develop a daily workout habit of at lease 30 minutes per day. Also be sure to consume the proper amount of supplements.
Anger- Feelings of rage will put an extra strain on anyone's heart. Men and women feel the same amount but they express it differently. It doesn't matter if you express anger through gossip or an aggressive behavior you're still hurting your heart. Harboring hostility put a strain on your blood vessels.
Conquer anger by expressing your thoughts and frustrations freely instead of holding them in. Then resolve the issue quickly. Take some time to do relaxing breathing techniques, or listen to some mellow music.
Loneliness- I'm not saying it is bad to be alone or loneliness is a bad thing. Only if you are feeling disconnected from the universe. Isolated loneliness not only makes the blood pressure rise, but it effects the immune system as well.
Resist loneliness by getting connected. Force yourself to join a group, preferably a hobby of your choice. Get a loving pet, get out to meet new people and make some quality friends.
Learn to mange your emotions to better protect your heart. Think positively instead of negative. Hang around more positive and like minded people that seems to have their lives in order.
Anxiety, anger, depression, and loneliness are the main emotions that has a negative effect on the heart. These same emotions are linked to the high rate of heart disease present in women. Ladies, get a grip on your emotions. Life is worth the effort.

Osteoporosis - A Health Risk For Women
Osteoporosis affects over 10 million Americans, and 80 percent of those are women. According to the National Osteoporosis Foundation, an additional 34 million Americans have low bone density, a serious risk factor for developing osteoporosis and suffering a fracture. Osteoporosis is a serious health risk for women, and the more you know about this disease, the more you can do to prevent it.
Surely you know of an elderly relative or neighbor who has suffered a fracture from a fall and how difficult recovery from that kind of injury can be. These fractures are usually the result of weakened, fragile bones. In fact, osteoporosis causes fractures in one out of every two post-menopausal women over 50.
Hip fractures are extremely difficult to recover from, and often result in a permanent disability. Many women lose their independence after a fracture, and the medical costs can be huge. In fact, thirty percent of hip fracture patients end up in nursing homes within a year of their fracture, and twenty percent die in the year following a fracture.
Fractures in the spine can occur because the vertebrae become so weak that they compress. This compression can be extremely painful and lead to loss of height or stooped posture. Fractures of the spine require long recovery times, and lead to a very high risk of another spinal fracture within one year.
If you think you don't need to worry about osteoporosis until you are older, think again. Women typically have the most bone loss in the first 5 years after menopause. So, if you are a woman in your fifties, you are probably losing bone mass already. If you are Caucasian or Asian, have a small frame or have a family history of osteoporosis, your risk of developing osteoporosis is greatly increased.
There are usually no symptoms of osteoporosis in the early stages of the disease. Osteoporosis can silently rob your bones of their strength, and you might be unaware of it until a fracture occurs. Since your bones are at their peak strength at age 25, bones can begin weakening at an early age. Even if you are a healthy woman in your early thirties, you should be aware of the risks of osteoporosis and the ways to prevent it.
Don't wait to educate yourself about osteoporosis. Talk to your doctor about the risk factors for the disease, ways to prevent bone loss and the newest treatments available. There are many resources for learning the facts about osteoporosis.

Quick Weight Loss For Women - Why Slow Weight Loss is the "New" Quick Weight Loss For Women!
Losing weight is an ongoing struggle for many women. But is quick weight loss for women the ultimate fix?
I personally have tried all the quick weight loss for women diets there is out there. Yes some of them do work, but only for a short period of time.
Let's look at these quick weight loss diets and understand why they work, but only for the short term.
How Do You Lose Weight Quickly?
In order to lose weight quickly you need to eat a much lower number of calories than you burn in a given day.
This means that you either have to calorie count or follow one of those "lose ten pounds in ten days" diets.
Many people say that in order to lose weight quickly you should only consume 800 calories a day. Wow - that's not much food is it?
Yes you can keep this up for a short period of time and lose weight quickly, but as soon as you start eating properly again... yes you've guessed it - up goes your weight again.
Therefore you are back to square one. Six months later you have tried so many quick weight loss fixes and given up so you are still at your overweight state. Not exactly quick weight loss now is it!
I know this from first hand experience, time and time again. Before I know it a whole year has passed and I still have not lost any weight even though I have spent money on many quick weight loss fixes!
Why Losing Weight Slowly Is The Way To Go
Now that we've established that quick weight loss is not the best way to go, let's look at why losing 1-2 lb a week is actually the "new" quick weight loss for women routine.
You see giving yourself enough calories to live off will give you a slow steady weight loss which is much more manageable to stick to and attain. After all you can eat a good amount of food plus have treats such as wine and the odd pizza slice etc. This is just so more natural making it much more achievable to stick to it and lose 1-2lb week.
You still have to watch what you eat and go down the healthy route with plenty of fruit, vegetables and fibre, but you can also fit in foods you like so you won't cheat.
So in the same six months you are much more likely to be able to stick to the higher calorie diet with a slower weight loss and be able to reach your goal. As opposed to keep trying quick fix fads which are practically humanly impossible to stick to so you give up and you are back to square one.
I finally realised this a few months ago when I was still 21lbs overweight after being on a 'diet' for about two years! So I set a target of losing only 1lb a week. This was so easy to stick to by being able to have the odd glass of red wine and a few treats. I ate healthy most of the week and introduced some exercise in the form of swimming. I am now half way to losing my 21lb but if I had stuck to my quick weight loss diet fads, I would still be 21lb overweight!
